Bakelite Jewelry
The material called bakelite was invented in the early 1900’s and was used mostly for industrial applications until the 1930s. It was around that time that making jewelry from this very high quality plastic became very popular.
During the height of its popularity the colors butterscotch and pea green were extremely popular. As a result of this, Bakelite jewelry in those colors are generally the least expensive ones to collect now. This beautiful jewelry was frequently heavily carved and typically had multiple colors laminated into it.
The most frequently sought Bakelite item are the figural pins.
