Used Wedding Dresses

It may be hard to admit, but some people (myself included) don't think that the perfect wedding involves spending big bucks on the perfect wedding dress. We may comb racks of discount dresses or sample sales. We may ask our parents or grandparents if they have a dress, or we may think about getting a used wedding dress. For some a used wedding dress offers the best option as there is more selection.

You might even be in luck on your search and happen across a dress that is being resold, but was never worn for some reason. Weddings can be cancelled, dresses can be replaced, these things happen all the time. Or you might find someone in the business of collecting deeply discounted dresses and reselling them. Either way there are great deals to be had. And you can put all the money you've saved towards a fabulous honeymoon.

You may be surprised to find out just how many used wedding dresses are available. There are thousands, if not more. If looking online, you may want to check out Ebay. The great thing about Ebay is that you can narrow down your dress search by size, style, or keyword (ie: Ralph Lauren). This makes it easier to just find the dresses you are interested in. Classified ads and thrift stores are also a good place to look.

Regardless of the condition of your new used wedding dress, you will want to get it cleaned for the big day. It's hard to tell if it has been cleaned by the previous owner so err on the side of caution and have it done yourself. Then take it in for alterations. Yes, these are extra expenses but compared to how much you are saving they are minimal.

If you are really lucky, you will find a dress that fits perfectly, but this is a rarity. Most bridal stores will do alterations for you if you make an appointment, even if you didn't get your dress through them. Make sure you call ahead to find out though. If they can't, they may be able to refer you to someone who can.
